Issued September 9th 2010
CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, September 9, 2010) – The LA Galaxy have activated midfielder David Beckham from the Disabled List, making him eligible for selection on Saturday against the Columbus Crew. That game, which is presented by University of Phoenix, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. from The Home Depot Center. Beckham, who was placed on the Disabled List on July 15 when he was officially added to the Galaxy roster, has not appeared in a game for the club since MLS Cup 2009 on November 22, 2009 after suffering a tear in his left Achilles tendon nearly six months ago.
Beckham was originally injured on March 14 while playing on loan for AC Milan of the Italian Serie A. He underwent surgery to repair the tendon two days later on March 16 in Finland before returning to Los Angeles to begin his recovery and rehabilitation. After spending much of the summer in South Africa with the England National Team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he returned to Southern California in early August. Beckham trained with the Galaxy for the first time on August 10, progressively increasing his training regiment over the last four weeks in order to be cleared to play.
Since joining the Galaxy in 2007, Beckham has appeared in 41 regular season games for the club, tallying seven goals and 15 assists. He played in 11 games for the club last season after spending the first half of the year on loan in Italy, scoring twice and adding three assists while helping the club reach their first MLS Cup since 2005.
