Following the launch of Roland Mouret’s Artist in Residence last October 2011, we are privileged to announce our latest addition, ‘Jesus Walking on Water’ by artist David Mach.

When researching the next artwork for display at 8 Carlos Place, Mouret envisioned a piece that would compliment his signature codes and current SS12 ready to wear collection. Through vibrant pops of color and techniques that remind Mouret of his own work, Mach’s ‘Jesus Walking on Water’ is every bit the reality of his vision.

Praised for his originality and unique self-taught technique of architectural drapery, Mouret was drawn to ‘Jesus Walking On Water’ because of the layering elements of the piece.  Mach cut and placed individual images so they seem to be woven amongst each other, resulting in intricate degrees of texture that are both visually striking as a whole yet delicate in detail, much like Mouret’s designs.

‘David Mach is an exceptional British artist who’s work I greatly admire. I am extremely honored to be able to showcase one of my favorite pieces of his work here at 8 Carlos Place’ Roland Mouret

‘Jesus Walking on Water’ is a body of work from David’s solo exhibition ‘Precious Light’ previously displayed from June-October 2011 at the Edinburgh Art Centre. The exhibition paid homage to the recent 400 year anniversary of the King James Bible – the best selling book in the English language.

David Mach, was born in Scotland in 1956. He graduated from the Royal College of Art, London in 1982, was nominated for the Turner prize in 1998 and has gone on to be elected as an Academician in 1998 and a Professor of Sculpture in 2000 at the Royal Academy of Art London. The Artists practice has served as a pivotal role in the world of sculpture and collage. His collages use mass media images from various visual sources, such as magazine and newspapers that create incredibly detailed and intricately produced pieces that range in size and scale. Mach has exhibited regularly and widely at galleries and museums worldwide.’
