From September 14th through October 20th, 2013 the Roland Mouretconcept house will be hosting a special selling exhibition of works by legendary fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez in celebration of what would have been his 70th birth year. Antonio Lopez created illustrations for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Interview throughout the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s.
Born in Puerto Rico, Antonio moved to New York City with his family when he was seven years old. He dropped out of the Fashion Institute of Technology to pursue a position at Women’s Wear Daily and later moved on to The New York Times.
His studio in New York, where he created works under the moniker Antonio with his partner Juan Ramos was a creative and eccentric meeting place for the glamorous group of friends surrounding him such as Andy Warhol, Grace Jones, Bill Cunningham, Jerry Hall, Jessica Lange, Pat Cleveland and Karl Lagerfeld. He also worked closely with the late Anna Piaggi.

“I’ve always been impressed by the power of illustration in fashion and advertising. Antonio was someone who made his mark in Paris at the same time as I was living there. We crossed paths many times at parties and dinners and it was amazing to see his drawing lines, the energy of that period.”
The exhibition will present a range of previously unseen works curated by Joffe from the 1960’s to the 1980’s that were created for magazines such as Interview, Vanity and The New York Times. All works are for sale through East of Mayfair and on view at Roland Mouret for the duration of the exhibition.
A special event celebrating the launch of the exhibition will be hosted with Roland Mouret to coincide with the start of London Fashion Week SS14.
